Hard work builds a career, and caring deeply for employees.
——Recorded as the general manager of Guangdong Nanhua West Electric Co., Ltd. - Zhu Yunfeng
————————————————————————

Every time I visited Dongguan and met Mr. Zhu, it was always in various places within the factory. Sometimes it was in the workshop, sometimes in the corridor, sometimes at the stairwell. However, I rarely saw him sitting calmly in his office. Sometimes he would lower his head and think deeply, and sometimes he would look around, always discovering and solving the problems around him. During the monthly group management meetings and in the company's management WeChat group, Mr. Zhu was also the one who raised the most questions. Behind these questions, there was his meticulous attention and deep thinking to every detail of the company.
However, there is still a certain distance between Shenzhen and Dongguan. My understanding of Mr. Zhu is still limited. To deepen my understanding of Mr. Zhu, I interviewed some of my old colleagues who had worked with him for over twenty years. From their accounts, I learned about a Mr. Zhu who was exactly the same as I had imagined, but also completely different.
What is exactly the same is Mr. Zhu at work. It can be summarized in just two words: diligence. What is completely different is Mr. Zhu in his personal life. It can also be summed up with just one word: sincerity. This sincerity is most vividly demonstrated at the dinner table. The dinner table is an important place for emotional communication. During the more than ten or twenty years of working together, this meal was definitely eaten quite often. Even now, when separated between Dongguan and Shenzhen, as long as we meet, we can't help but have a long talk about the friendship and brotherhood we shared over these ten or twenty years. And every time we get together, it is Zhu Zhu who is the most cheerful and enthusiastic. He takes turns to drink the wine and change the cups, and he never leaves until he gets drunk.
I haven't met the straightforward Mr. Zhu yet, but the serious Mr. Zhu, although I don't know him very well, is not unfamiliar to me either. After all, we have some work interactions on a daily basis.
Seriousness is both an attitude and a capability. There is a saying: 'Those who are serious change themselves, while those who are persistent change their destinies.' Mr. Zhu has been rooted in Nanhua West for twenty years. From an ordinary worker to the general manager, it is precisely his seriousness and persistence that have changed his fate and enabled him to achieve success.
A serious person will not be too far away from success.
Zhu was very handsome when he was young. But as the current popular saying goes, only those who are ugly can focus on their careers. Those who are good-looking all try to be cool. Moreover, since he was favored by his parents since childhood, Zhu in his youth didn't have much ambition for his career and still had a bit of the airs of a young lord.
In 1996, at the age of nearly 30, Zhu Zong left his hometown in Hubei Province and came to Shenzhen for the first time. According to his own account, he came to Shenzhen just with a casual 'let's have a try' mentality. His family didn't take his going to work elsewhere too seriously. They thought he would return home in a couple of days.
On the second day of arriving in Shenzhen, Mr. Zhu entered Nanhuaxi and became an assembly worker in the workshop. This accidental step turned out to be a significant turning point in Mr. Zhu's life. At that time, Nanhuaxi was still in its infancy, and the workshop only had a few people. Due to the small size of the team, everyone got along well and felt like a big family. The enthusiasm for work was extremely high. Perhaps influenced and inspired by the entrepreneurial enthusiasm of everyone, Mr. Zhu suddenly realized the responsibility of life. He abandoned his initial attitude of just coming to Shenzhen for a visit and decided to work hard with everyone at Nanhuaxi to achieve something significant.
The change in mindset led to a change in character. Mr. Zhu abandoned the behavior of a young lord and began to devote himself to the study of production processes and techniques. As a result, he became the most diligent and studious person in the workshop.
Chairman Mao once said that the word 'earnest' is the only thing that scares people in the world. Before entering South West China, Mr. Zhu knew nothing about electrical knowledge, even the most basic electrical components. But through serious study and study, Mr. Zhu quickly mastered the assembly skills. At the same time, due to his organizational and leadership skills in his work, in the second year, Mr. Zhu began to serve as the workshop director, and as a technical expert, he took on the work of product debugging and after-sales service. In 1999, Mr. Zhu went further and became the manager of the production department of the company. In 2006, Mr. Zhu began to hold the post of vice president of production scheduling, and went to Sun Yat-sen University for MBA study in 2007. In 2013, Mr. Zhu officially became the general manager of South Huaxi Dongguan Company.
It can be said that before joining South China West, and after joining South China West, Mr. Zhu experienced two different lives. With his personal experience, Mr. Zhu once again verified such a sentence: a serious person will not be too far away from success.
From nothing to something, connected to the pulse of Nanhuaxi
Nan Huaxi was founded in 1995. Until Zhu joined in 1996, the company only had a few employees. At about the same time as Zhu joined, Shen Yongjun, Tao Shengtian, Li Tinghua and Deng Guiyun also joined the company. The development directions of these early entrepreneurs were all different. Shen Yongjun focused on the technical aspect and is now the group's technical director; Li Tinghua focused on the business aspect and is now the head of the group's business department; Tao Shengtian and Deng Guiyun focused on the business aspect and have now become the sales elites and main pillars of the company, contributing approximately one-third of the company's total sales; while Zhu focused on the production aspect. Since 1997, he entered the management position and began as the workshop director, then became the production department manager and the deputy director of production scheduling. Zhu has always been the primary person responsible for the production department, leading the development and growth of the factory.
Starting from a small workshop with just a few people and an area of only a hundred or so square meters, it has grown into a modern electrical industrial park covering nearly 30,000 square meters. Mr. Zhu has basically gone through the entire process of the development of Nanhuaxi Factory from nothing to something, and from small to large. Whether it's the construction of production lines, production systems, production processes, production teams, etc., all were created under his main participation or organization.
Especially in the early stages of the company, due to the need for development, the factory underwent six relocation processes, all of which were carried out under the direct command of Mr. Zhu. From Nan Yuan Xishan Street to Daxin Village, from Daxin Village to Nan Yuan Village, from Nan Yuan Village to Nanshan Village, and from Nanshan Village to the iron shed of Nanshan Detention Center. In 2002, the company acquired Nanhua Switch Factory, and the factory moved from Shenzhen to Guangzhou. In 2008, the factory moved from Guangzhou to Dongguan, establishing a modern electrical industrial park in Hongmei Town, Dongguan City, and finally settling down here. Each relocation was a transformation for the company, but for Mr. Zhu, it was all a considerable amount of hard work. Through these successive relocations, Mr. Zhu imprinted his life marks at every important node of the company's growth.
It can be said that Comrade Zhu's bloodline has been completely integrated with the pulse of the factory.
Care for employees and implement management in a humanized manner throughout the process.
Although Zhu General is a serious and principled person, and always demands from his subordinates the quality of 'being serious', Zhu General is by no means a harsh person. Instead, he is a very warm-hearted person. In Zhu General's management style, humanization runs through every aspect.
Since taking up the management position, Mr. Zhu has always advocated the principle of 'working diligently and living happily'. While enhancing work efficiency and generating company profits, he has endeavored to achieve a balance between work and life, and has placed the respect for people, understanding of people, and care for people at the top of his management duties.
The employees did not feel any distance from Mr. Zhu due to his serious and principled nature. Instead, their comments were uniformly the same four words - 'approachable and friendly'. Mr. Zhu likes to visit the workshops. He spends about half of his time each day inspecting the workshops. Firstly, because Mr. Zhu knows that the employees on the production line are often more familiar with the production situation than the leaders. Mr. Zhu hopes to listen to the opinions of the employees nearby and keep track of the production dynamics and discover potential problems in production in real time. Secondly, it is also to enhance communication with the employees and shorten the distance between him and them. Sometimes, it is even just to meet the employees and say hello. Basically, Mr. Zhu can call the names of every one of the hundreds of employees in the factory.
Zhu's concern for the employees is mainly reflected in the following three aspects:
First, in terms of the company's policies. For instance, the system for changing shifts for office staff. When an employee encounters a personal issue that requires time to address, they can apply for a shift change by working overtime. Each application should not exceed three days. This system provides employees with some flexibility to arrange their work and personal life. Another example is the holiday arrangement for the Spring Festival each year. Mr. Zhu always proposes the holiday time based on the needs of the employees, rather than solely from the perspective of company production.
Secondly, in terms of logistical support. For instance, the staff's meals, working environment, dormitory conditions, etc. Mr. Zhu has consistently shown concern and continuously made improvements.
Thirdly, in terms of personal care. For instance, by leveraging his social connections, he would solve practical life problems for the employees. Last year, several employees' children reached the age for primary school enrollment, but they were facing the issue of where to go to school. Private schools allow everyone to attend, but the distance is far and the tuition is expensive; public schools have shorter distances and lower tuition, but the quotas are limited. Therefore, Mr. Zhu fully utilized his social connections, traveled back and forth multiple times, and communicated with relevant government departments to successfully secure school admission quotas for the employees' children. Also last year, one of the employees had a traffic accident. Mr. Zhu also utilized his social connections and participated in the entire process of employee treatment, accident investigation and handling, securing significant benefits for the employee.
